It's been 7 years since I last visited Shanghai. It was quite a nostalgic feeling to return to a place I called home previously. I spent a good chunk of my childhood years here (age 4 to 9) watching the city blossom from what was previously considered to be a undeveloped city into the world class city it is today. I was also fortunate enough to spend the summer months here from age 10 to 21. In a lot of ways, Shanghai is like my 2nd home. Both my parents are from here, so there's a deep emotional connection for me whenever I come back.
The timing of my return was also fortuitous. We had just made a meaningful investment in Alibaba, and the oil thesis for 2025 is heavily dependent on China's oil demand growth. With that, I am here to share with you some of my thoughts on what I've seen so far, and what the latest fiscal policies measures could do to change China's incoming growth trajectory.
